Measurement Error Analysis

Accuracy vs. Precision

Errors in measurement devices can be attributed to systematic errors (accuracy) or random (precision) errors.  Systematic errors are due to a consistent bias (in one direction or another) from the true value or reference point.  Random errors are due to a lack of precision in measurement.  Analysis of precision and bias is an integral part of thorough Quality Assurance and Quality Control programs.
