Radon Physics Copy

Radon is a heavy gas that has a tendency to collect in basements or the lowest places in a building.

Other characteristics of radon:

  • Noble gas [chemically inert, does not combine with other elements. e.g. non-combustible]
  • Colorless
  • Odorless
  • Tasteless
  • Water Soluble

In this chapter, we will learn more about the physical properties of radon and what makes radon different from other gasses. More importantly, we will learn what makes it an element of concern to human health when it changes from a gas into a solid particulate. This understanding will help you in practicing the measurement and/or mitigation of radon in the field as well as communicating the radon message to the public.
