Communicating Responsibly

There is no difference in health risk between a 3.9 pCi/L and 4.0 pCi/L yet in a real estate transaction, reports often read “PASS” accompanying a 3.9 pCi/L. Unless clear communication is provided to the client, a false assumption may lead to increased health risk or even lung cancer. Industry personnel have an ethical obligation to communicate universally accepted recommendations that home be mitigated to below 2.0 pCi/L. This communication is often foregone by amateur radon practitioners who yield to third-party interests in real estate transactions. Such action can lead to serious liability issues for both the radon practitioner and the real estate professional.
