Quality Assurance & Quality Control

The objective of a Quality Assurance Program (QAP) is to ensure accurate measurement results by employing deliberate quality controls and to provide documentation of the procedures used to ensure this accuracy.  To assess the quality of data achieved in field measurements, test providers using radon or radon decay product measurement devices should establish a QAP that includes:  Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Quality Control measures, and a QA/QC evaluation and maintenance process.

Deliberate Quality Assurance (QA) procedures are essential to a credible measurement program. Measurement operators provide results to clients, which may become critical to the sale of a property. If the measurement result is questioned, the tester may be liable if QA records do not provide adequate documentation of compliance to recommended practices. The substantiated validity of the result is only possible in a program that implements appropriate QA practices.  A comprehensive QA/QC program not only lends credibility to the organization but limits liability as well.
